The executive director of the Free Press Association, Petru Macovei, supports the termination of the mandates of the members of the Audiovisual Council, which in his opinion have a big role in „the play of political forces”. Macovei states that this must be done very carefully so as not to leave room for future abuse.
„From this point of view, even if it is a drastic measure, I personally support the idea of the termination of the mandates of the members of the Audiovisual Council and the members of the Competition Council, who mimic activities, but more importantly, who protect certain monopolies on the market,” Macovei said in an interview for Europa Libera.
The expert thinks that, in the same way the Audiovisual Council helped Plahotniuc in the past, now it helps Dodon.
„I fully understand the fears of my colleagues, I share their fears. I think this should be done very carefully so as not to allow for future abuses to happen, but I remain convinced that there should be applied tougher and more drastic measures, because you do not have to be very intelligent in order to understand that this council plays a big role in the political forces. The Audiovisual Council helped Plahotniuc in the past, now it helps Dodon … you can’t take for granted the public money in any society and this thing should be stopped. How exactly? By politicians finding a solution to this problem”, said Petru Macovei.
