Former Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, claims that Vlad Filat was released with the help of „Dodon’s justice”. Her reaction comes after President Igor Dodon accused the Sandu Executive body of being responsible for Filat’s release.
„Dodon’s justice released Filat from prison. I want it to be completely clear – the Government I have led has nothing to do with this decision. The decision of the courthouse Ciocana to release Vlad Filat raises big questions, the same as many other decisions adopted by the justice of the Republic of Moldova,” said Sandu.
Sandu rejects the President’s accusations that her former Government was be responsible for the release of Filat.
„Dodon’s accusations against my team are absurd. He is the one who controls the judges and protects corrupt people. The Government I led fought vehemently against corruption. But anyway, Dodon is a joke compared to Plahotniuc, the man he was scared of and of whom he escaped only due to the ACUM bloc. His time will come as well very soon”, added Maia Sandu.
Filat, sentenced to 9 years of prison, was released ahead of time. This information was confirmed to Cotidianul.md by his lawyer, Victor Munteanu.
President Igor Dodon was surprised that the former Prime Minister Vlad Filat was released from prison. The head of state believes that the former Government is responsible for this decision. Igor Dodon said he asked for explanations from the Ministry of Justice and that he would provide more details later on.
Vlad Filat was sentenced to 9 years of prison on June 27 in 2016, for influence peddling and passive corruption, following a denunciation from the controversial businessman Ilan Şor.
This summer, Filat’s sentence was reduced by 685 days (one year and ten months). At the basis of this stood the decision of the ECHR regarding the conditions of detention.
