În centrul Croației au apărut mai multe cratere, după cutremurul din luna decembrie. Mai multe doline au fost găsite într-o regiune slab populată, la aproximativ 40 de kilometri sud-vest de capitala Zagreb.
Oamenii de știință s-au grăbit să ajungă la Mecencani și în alte sate pentru a studia găurile rotunde, neobișnuite, potrivit EuroNews și Digi24.
„Aceste cratere sau doline au apărut datorită compoziției geologice specifice acestei zone, deoarece solul se sprijină pe roci calcaroase puternic saturate cu apă subterană”, a explicat geologul Josip Terzic.
În urmă cu două luni, șapte persoane au fost ucise în Croația după ce un cutremur cu magnitudinea 6,4 a provocat pagube grave în orașul Petrinja. De atunci, în regiune au apărut aproximativ 100 de doline.
Multe dintre acestea au apărut lângă case și pe terenuri agricole, determinând autoritățile locale să ia măsuri de protecție.
În timp ce apariția acestor găuri nu este neobișnuită în urma unei activități seismice puternice, locuitorii au fost surprinși de numărul lor mare și de viteza cu care au apărut.
Geologii au spus că seismul a accelerat procesul de formare a gropilor care ar fi durat în mod normal ani sau chiar decenii. Terzic a spus că oamenii de știință studiază aceste gropi care pot oferi informații foarte importante despre structura solului din zonă.
Cutremurele sunt frecvente în Croația, dar, de regulă, nu sunt severe.
