Valeriu Pașa: Vasile Costiuc is a George Simion of Chișinău
Vasile Costiuc seems to be relying on a political tactic identical to the one used by George Simion in Romania, namely entering into direct conflict with the authorities and generating scandals meant to capture public attention. This is the opinion of political analyst Valeriu Pașa, expressed in the "Report" podcast, produced by journalist Nicolae Chicu for the publication Podul.
"Why do I say this? Because lately, if you analyze Costiuc's tactics, it's exactly Simion's tactics from a few years ago, to enter into direct conflict with the authorities, with the police, and so on. To provoke, to make a scandal," the expert said.
Costiuc's surprise approach to George Simion was inevitable and obvious, says the Watchdog expert.
"The fact that they approached George Simion is absolutely organic. It's certain that he has a hold on the public," Pașa explained.
The expert warns of the real risks posed by Costiuc's possible presence in Parliament.
"If he comes to power, it's a mess. This man will bring back Plahotniuc because he served him for half his life," warns the analyst.
Valeriu Pașa also noted the way Costiuc manages to capture attention in the online environment, where he issues controversial and absolutely false messages, but which reach their target.
"Costiuc has no way of bringing forward professional people with ideas, with a program. Accordingly, he also delivers what he knows best, a slum scandal. But I repeat, what is important is that he puts in an intense effort," said Pașa.
At the same time, Valeriu Pașa criticized the traditional opposition parties for their lack of involvement and the absence of a coherent and convincing discourse, on all platforms.
"What do the normal pro-European opposition parties deliver? Two videos on Facebook and at most something there. No emotion, nothing, they are not recognizable," said Valeriu Pașa.
Regarding Costiuc's chances of entering Parliament, the expert notes that everything depends on how well he manages to maintain his challenges.
"In theory, yes. If he makes two, three, four more scandals, if the Police of the Republic of Moldova continues to let themselves be provoked like this... If TikTok takes down his official account, but they won't take down these fake pages that I was talking about earlier, which are growing him from the shadows...", said Pașa.
The expert concludes that the Moldovan political scene is a terrain divided into fragments, in which parties and politicians have well-defined roles in the electoral campaign.
"Soria, Ceban, alternative, communists and so on. They are all connected. They have clearly divided roles and act in the campaign. Some have roles to attract votes, some have roles to make noise, regardless of whether you participate in the elections or not," concluded Valeriu Pașa.
