VIDEO A Moldovan, detained by the FSB for espionage in favor of Ukraine

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation announced the detention, in the city of Ryazan, of a Russian citizen born in 2001, originally from the Republic of Moldova, accused of espionage in favor of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR MO).

According to the FSB statement, in 2024, the suspect voluntarily contacted and maintained contact with a representative of the Ukrainian intelligence service via the Telegram app. Under the guidance of his coordinator, the man allegedly collected and transmitted information about a military unit of the Russian army and an enterprise of the military-industrial complex located in the Ryazan region.

The FSB states that, in return, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense promised him support to safely leave Russian territory and settle in a NATO member state - France - with the aim of joining a Ukrainian armed formation banned in the Russian Federation, which is fighting alongside the Ukrainian army as part of the "special military operation".

Following the investigation, the FSB opened a criminal case for high treason in the form of espionage, under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court ordered the suspect's pre-trial detention.
