VIDEO | Daniel Gheorghe: The unification of the Republic of Moldova with Romania would strengthen the eastern flank of NATO, the European Union and the free world. The Romanian MP highlights the security role of the Union

In the context of the war launched by Russia against Ukraine, hybrid threats and sabotage actions targeting European states, Romanian MP Daniel Gheorghe urges Bucharest to openly assume the objective of the Union of the Republic of Moldova with Romania.

The parliamentarian believes that the reunification of the two banks of the Prut would contribute to strengthening security on the eastern flank of NATO and the European Union. In a recent speech in the Romanian Parliament, he warns that Russian aggression is not limited to the front in Ukraine, but also manifests itself through hybrid warfare, pressure on neighboring states and threats to regional security. Daniel Gheorghe argues that, beyond investments in defense, infrastructure and energy security, Romania must have the courage to put the goal of national reunification on the political agenda.

"I believe that the EU and NATO have a duty to fully engage in supporting the allied countries on the eastern border. We have this war of aggression that Russia has launched against Ukraine, which has turned the entire world upside down and is putting all the free nations bordering the eastern space under enormous pressure. Let's think, for example, about what is happening now in the Black Sea. Now the Black Sea is a much more unsafe place than the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. Russian attacks are taking place in the Black Sea every day. It seems that we have started to get used to it. It is not enough that we had gotten used to Russian propaganda and all the Putinist acrobats in parliament and in public space, but now we are getting used to it. Today the drone comes, tomorrow the missile. It is a situation that Europe and NATO must treat with maximum, maximum responsibility", said Daniel Gheorghe.

The parliamentarian argues that current threats require special security measures and closer cooperation between European states.

"In addition to the elements related to critical infrastructure, transport infrastructure, energy policies, cooperation policies, policies of permanent support for the countries on the eastern border, we must understand that today's world has changed radically. And the countries on the eastern border require particular treatment in this period marked by Russian aggression. It is an aggression that we see in this destructive war in Ukraine, but which we also see in the form of hybrid warfare and asymmetric aggressions that the whole of Europe is facing and which are multiple and which we, Romanians, also feel", the Romanian deputy explained.

In this context, Daniel Gheorghe demands the explicit assumption of the Union of the Republic of Moldova with Romania, which he considers both a national desire and a solution for regional security.

"I am glad that the Republic of Moldova is also remembered. The best solution for the Republic of Moldova is Unification, reunification with the mother country. It is simply an issue that ensures peace and security on the eastern flank. And in Bucharest, we should stop being afraid and fooling ourselves so much, because we are stealing our hats too much, and say it very honestly: the Republic of Moldova is an integral part of the Romanian nation. And Unification is Romania's desire. And this helps the eastern border, helps NATO, the European Union and the free world. Thank you!", concluded Daniel Gheorghe.
