Scammers pose as Termoelectrica employees and threaten people with disconnection. Under the pretext of checking meters, they try to obtain personal data

A new scam is targeting Termoelectrica consumers. Unknown individuals are calling citizens, posing as employees of the company and asking for personal information, claiming to need to check or replace hot water meters. To get them to provide the requested information, some scammers are even threatening to disconnect services. The company warns that it does not request identity information over the phone and urges consumers to check any suspicious requests.
According to Termoelectrica, the people involved in this scheme are trying to obtain information such as name, home address and ID card details. Under the pretext of technical interventions on domestic hot water meters, they exert pressure on consumers, claiming that refusal to provide the information could lead to the cessation of services.
The company states that its employees never ask for ID data, banking information, confirmation codes received via SMS, or other confidential information over the phone.
At the same time, meter verification is carried out according to pre-established procedures. Interventions in apartments are carried out based on a request previously submitted by the owner, either at the company's One-Stop Shop or by e-mail.
"The representatives of "Termoelectrica" SA contact consumers by phone only to coordinate the date and time of the visit, depending on their availability, without requesting personal data or other confidential information", the company states.
In this context, Termoelectrica recommends that citizens not communicate personal or confidential data over the phone, regardless of the identity of the caller. Consumers are urged not to give in to threats of disconnection and to confirm the authenticity of any request through the company's official channels.
If they are contacted by suspicious persons or notice a possible fraud attempt, citizens are urged to notify the Police.
