Nantoi: The separatist regime in Tiraspol is doomed to collapse, but Chisinau is trying to avoid an uncontrolled collapse of the region
The separatist regime in Tiraspol is heading towards collapse, amid the increasingly serious economic problems in the Transnistrian region. However, the authorities in Chisinau are trying to avoid an uncontrolled collapse of the separatist administration, as the consequences would represent a major burden for the Republic of Moldova. The statements were made by political analyst Oazu Nantoi, during the "In essence" show on UNU TV.
According to Nantoi, the economic situation on the left bank of the Dniester has deteriorated so much that tens of thousands of residents are forced to cross the Dniester daily to work on the right bank. In his opinion, the current separatist regime is no longer viable, but its sudden disappearance would create economic and social problems that the constitutional authorities are trying to prevent.
"There are tens of thousands of residents from the left bank of the Dniester who daily leave for the right bank to work, due to the fact that the region on the left bank of the Dniester has become a depressed area and it is obvious that this regime is doomed to collapse. Another thing is that the leadership of the Republic of Moldova does not want this collapse to go unmanaged, because that would have meant a burden that was far too great for us, those on the right bank of the Dniester."
The analyst made these statements in the context of the protest organized in Tiraspol by the separatist administration, which accuses Chisinau of establishing an economic blockade. Nantoi believes that the demonstration did not represent a free expression of the population's dissatisfaction, but an action organized by the regime, similar to the referendums held previously in the region.
In his opinion, the authorities in Chisinau must continue their reintegration policies, without giving in to pressure from the separatist administration. Nantoi insisted in particular on respecting human rights and combating the indoctrination of children and young people in the region.
"So we must understand that the people from the left bank of the Nistru River were driven to the so-called protest rally, just as they were driven to the so-called referendums that took place on the left bank of the Nistru River. And this only means that Chisinau must demonstrate firmness and consistency in promoting policies for the reunification of the country, emphasizing the defense of fundamental human rights and stopping the absolutely illegal and inhumane policies of indoctrination of children and young people from the left bank of the Nistru River."
The Tiraspol protest was organized amid the separatist administration's dissatisfaction with the fiscal and customs measures introduced by Chisinau. Participants demanded the elimination of some taxes, the abandonment of VAT collection, and the resumption of negotiations in the 5+2 format.
The Reintegration Policy Office described the demonstration as a political spectacle directed by the separatist administration and contested the voluntary nature of participation.
