Ukraine attacked a petrochemical plant in Russia, 2.500 kilometers from the border

Ukrainian drones reportedly struck several targets in the Russian city of Omsk, located in Siberia, about 2.500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, on Saturday, October 24. The targets of the attack reportedly included a petrochemical plant involved in the supply chain for the production of fuel for Iskander ballistic missiles and a logistics warehouse, reports Kyiv Independent.

According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova Plus, a fire broke out at the Omsky Kauchuk petrochemical plant, one of the largest facilities of its kind in Russia.

The company produces synthetic rubber, organic chemicals and methyl tert-butyl ether, a substance used in gasoline refining. Exilenova Plus claims that the plant is also part of the supply chain for the production of fuel for missiles, including the Iskander ballistic missiles used by Russia in its attacks on Ukraine.

Later, the same channel reported that the drones also hit a warehouse of the Ozon company, one of the largest online retailers in Russia.

The governor of the Omsk region, Vitaly Khotsenko, confirmed a Ukrainian drone attack on a logistics center in the city.

"A logistics center in Omsk was attacked by a drone. The personnel were promptly evacuated. Emergency services are responding to the scene," the Russian official said.

Kyiv Independent states that information regarding the targets hit could not be independently verified.

This is not the first Ukrainian attack on industrial infrastructure in this region. On October 8, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army confirmed the strike on the Omsk oil refinery.

Also on October 24, the Ukrainian military announced that it had attacked the Tolyattikauchuk petrochemical plant in the Samara region, as well as a plane at the military airfield in Eisk, Krasnodar region.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, synthetic rubber produced by such enterprises is used in the manufacture of solid fuel for tactical and ballistic missiles. Kiev claims that the attacks on industrial facilities are aimed at reducing Russia's ability to produce weapons and continue the war against Ukraine.
