October, a devastating month for the Russian military. Zelensky announces record losses of over 54.000 soldiers and claims that Ukraine has liberated more territory than Russia occupied

The Russian military reportedly suffered its highest monthly casualties in October since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with 54.400 soldiers killed or seriously wounded. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Kiev's forces managed to recapture more territory than Moscow's troops had occupied during the same period. The Ukrainian leader said that Russian losses in a single day had also reached a record high, and that the continuation of the war would only increase the price Russia paid for its aggression. The figures were presented on Sunday, November 1, in a post on Telegram.
According to data provided by Zelensky, the Ukrainian military liberated 96,2 square kilometers of territory in October, 10,4 square kilometers more than the area that the Russian army would have managed to occupy in the same period.
The Ukrainian president states that the results on the front demonstrate the ability of Kiev's forces to defend their positions and inflict significant losses on Russian troops.
"Russia is losing. We are maintaining our positions, liberating territories and making every day of war cost the aggressor as dearly as possible", the Ukrainian president said.
Another record cited by the Kiev leader concerns October 21, when Russia reportedly lost 2.250 soldiers, killed or seriously wounded. According to him, this would be the highest Russian loss toll recorded in a 24-hour period since the beginning of the invasion.
Zelensky thanked the Ukrainian military for the results achieved and stressed that Moscow has the opportunity to stop the human losses by accepting a ceasefire and returning to negotiations.
"To stop these insane losses, it is enough for Russia to choose a ceasefire and diplomacy", Zelensky added.
The data on Russian military losses and territorial developments presented by the Ukrainian president could not be confirmed by independent sources.
