PAS MP Tatiana Rotari complains to Vasile Costiuc at the Prosecutor's Office after the Giurgiulesti scandal: "No one is above the law. Not even a deputy!"

PAS MP Tatiana Rotari announced that she is filing, together with several colleagues in Parliament, a complaint with the Prosecutor General's Office against MP Vasile Costiuc and his colleagues, following the incident at the Giurgiulesti International Free Port. The MP asks prosecutors to verify whether the "Democracy at Home" Party MPs violated the legislation on the border zone regime and whether, through their statements and actions, they harmed the economic interests and security of the Republic of Moldova.
In a Facebook post, Tatiana Rotari criticized the actions of the MPs who went to the port area to check grain shipments from Ukraine. She argues that exercising the mandate of an MP does not justify breaking the law or spreading false information.
"Today I am filing a complaint on behalf of myself and several fellow PAS deputies to the Prosecutor General's Office regarding the actions of deputy Vasile Costiuc and his colleagues in the area of the Giurgiulesti International Free Port. The mandate of a deputy does not give anyone the right to defy the law, to violate the regime of the border area or to spread false information that may harm the economic interests and security of the Republic of Moldova. What happened in Giurgiulesti cannot be overlooked. We are talking about unfounded accusations regarding the import and transit of Ukrainian cereals, about actions carried out in a special regime area and about possible violations of the legislation," said Tatiana Rotari.
The reaction comes after, on November 1, the deputies of the "Democracy at Home" Party, Vasile Costiuc, Sergiu Stefanco and Ana Țurcan, went to the border area at Giurgiulesti, where they filmed wagons with agricultural products from Ukraine. The parliamentarians accused the authorities of allowing the import and processing of Ukrainian cereals to the detriment of Moldovan farmers, although the imports of some agricultural products are subject to licensing.
The government has denied the allegations, saying the agricultural products were in transit to Romania and were not intended for the Moldovan market. The government has also criticized the publication of images filmed in the border area, claiming that they could create risks for the security of the infrastructure.
For its part, the Border Police announced that it is examining the circumstances of the incident, including from a contravention perspective, to determine whether the rules applicable in the border area were violated.
In this context, Tatiana Rotari insists that the right of deputies to exercise parliamentary control does not exempt them from the obligation to comply with the legislation. The parliamentarian asks the Prosecutor General's Office to examine the actions of Costiuc and his colleagues and determine whether there are grounds for applying legal measures.
"Freedom of expression and the right to parliamentary control should not be confused with the right to violate the law. Through the complaint filed, I request the Prosecutor General's Office to examine the circumstances of these actions, to determine whether illegal acts have been committed and, if found, to order the measures provided for by law. No one is above the law. Not even a deputy!", Tatiana Rotari sent.
