The Presidency accuses Vasile Costiuc of spreading lies: "The false accusations are already targeting the Presidency"

The Presidency of the Republic of Moldova has reacted harshly to MP Vasile Costiuc, after he accused Maia Sandu of interfering in the election of the leadership of the Hâncești District Council. The presidential institution rejects the accusations, which it describes as lies, and reproaches the MP for spreading false information, including regarding the transport of Ukrainian grain through Giurgiulesti.

In a post published on Tuesday, November 3, on Facebook, the Presidency claims that Vasile Costiuc continues to launch unfounded accusations, following the controversy caused by the images filmed in the border area of Giurgiulesti.

"Costiuc's false accusations are already targeting the Presidency. After publishing images from the Giurgiulesti border area, promoting falsehoods about the transported cereals, Vasile Costiuc continues to launch unfounded accusations, this time about the President's involvement in appointing leaders to district councils," the presidential institution's message states.

The reaction comes after the leader of the "Democracy at Home" Party published a video clip in which he claims that Maia Sandu went to Hâncești to put pressure on the PAS territorial organization so that it would support Vasile Moraru's candidacy for the position of vice president of the district, responsible for the economic field.

Costiuc stated that the Vice President of Parliament, Doina Gherman, also participated in the discussions. The parliamentarian did not present, in the available information, evidence confirming the alleged pressure exerted by the head of state.

The presidency denies Maia Sandu's involvement in these appointments and condemns the deputy's statements, urging the population to verify the information from reliable sources.

"The Presidency of the Republic of Moldova firmly rejects Vasile Costiuc's lies and condemns the spread of false information. We urge citizens to obtain information from credible sources," the institution's reaction states.

Vasile Moraru was elected on November 2 as vice president of Hâncești district, responsible for the economic field.

The scandal comes a few days after Vasile Costiuc and other deputies of the "Democracy at Home" Party went to the Giurgiulesti International Free Port area and published images of Ukrainian grain shipments. They launched accusations regarding the import and transit of the grains, which were later disputed by the authorities.
